Design Council, 34 Bow Street, London WC2E 7DL
15-23 September 2008

A groundbreaking series of events and spaces dedicated to sustainable design – the first of its kind as part of the London Design Festival – greengaged took place at the Design Council in Covent Garden.

greengaged hosted a fantastic mix of contributors – from chemists to magicians, engineers to entrepreneurs – to challenge and inspire the design industry on sustainability. greengaged events examined ecological imperatives, political and social drivers, and sustainable design strategies across disciplines from product design to graphics and service design to fashion.

Packed with hot topic debates, practical workshops, seminars, exhibitions, screenings and networking events, greengaged brought together all sectors of the design industry to focus on sustainability issues, exchange ideas and carve out new roles for design.

Outside the event stood the greengaged skip designed by Oliver Bishop-Young. It created a small park like space and meeting point for those attending greengaged; complete with grass, a tree and WEmake's rocking bench.

For more information and a brilliant blog recording the events as they unfolded, please visit the greengaged website.

greengaged was developed and organised by Sophie Thomas at thomas.matthews, Sarah Johnson at [re]design, and Anne Chick from the Sustainable Design Research Centre at Kingston University, with support from Arup and Three Trees Don't Make A Forest in association with our host for 2008, the Design Council.
